Dobyns-Bennett High School Choral Director Position
Kingsport, Tennessee City Schools seeks a choral director for Dobyns-Bennett High School. Dobyns-Bennett is a well-established, well respected high school that serves approximately 1900 students in grades 9-12.
The choral program is in the process of reorganizing, with excellent potential for growth. The high school program is supported by two active middle school chorus programs. Arts programs are supported enthusiastically in Kingsport, an industrial/professional community of 49,000 in beautiful upper East Tennessee.
The choral director will teach two sections of Advanced Chorus, two sections of Beginning Chorus, and one music elective course.
The choral director, based on his/her skill set, will develop additional special interest groups such as show-choir, a cappella ensembles, or musical theatre.
Multiple concerts and programs will be offered throughout the school year. The choral program will collaborate with the school’s well-established band and orchestra programs. The choral program will be expected to support and enhance the overall school culture.
The choral director will guide the chorus in regional and state competitions for ensembles and individuals.
The choral director will develop, support, and maintain a viable parent support organization.
Applicants must have a bachelor’s degree in vocal music education and a valid Tennessee teaching license. Qualified out-of-state applicants are encouraged to apply, with the understanding that a Tennessee license must be obtained.
Experienced choral directors are encouraged to apply. Those without experience may apply as well, with the understanding of the high level of expectations and community demands that accompany a position of this nature.
