Full-Time Assistant Conductor - The Young People's Chorus of Erie

Location: Erie, Pennsylvania, USA

The Young People’s Chorus of Erie, an outreach program of Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, is seeking an Assistant Conductor. Serves as the conductor of the YPC Erie’s Cantare ensemble; assists the artistic director in developing and implementing curriculum for Cantare choristers that provides training in music literacy, basic vocal techniques, and prepares the choristers for advancement to the upper-level ensembles; provides music classes; actively designs and implements strategies to identify potential new YPC Erie choristers; participates in advanced ensemble rehearsals, serving as conductor, providing appropriate vocal modeling, or leading sectional rehearsals when necessary. Also, works in conjunction with the director to implement satellite choir partnerships with schools, community centers, and organizations.
 
Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree or higher plus one year of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master's degree preferred.  Preference will also be given to candidates with Kodály certification. The successful candidate should maintain effective relationships with peers, parents and children in a diverse environment; interpret information, ideas and instructions and communicate clearly and accurately both verbally and in writing. Experience with children from various socioeconomic backgrounds and/or children with special needs preferred. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding.
