The Grammy-Award® winning Brooklyn Youth Chorus Academy is seeking a dynamic conductor to strengthen, build, promote and lead its Young Men's Ensemble (YME), the Academy's division for changed-voice, male singers ages 13-21. As part of a internationally renowned music institution with a 21-year history, the Young Men’s Ensemble has already had opportunities to perform in New York and out-of-state venues such as the Barclays Center, the Wells Fargo Arena in Philadelphia, and the National Cherry Blossom Festival in D.C., and with such noted musicians as the Kronos Quartet, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, and the legendary Barbra Streisand.

 

The YME director will be responsible for the following:

-Work closely with artistic director Dianne Berkun-Menaker to plan an exciting educational and performance program of male-voice and mixed-voice repertoire 

-Prepare and conduct weekly rehearsals. 

-Actively recruit new singers and grow the YME by developing partnerships with NYC schools and other arts organizations

-Promote the ensemble through contracted performance opportunities and participate in outreach efforts on behalf of the ensemble.  

-Work with composers on commission projects developed specifically for the YME and BYC.

 

Qualified candidates will have at least five years of experience working with changed male voices and a solid understanding of vocal pedagogy, as well as a willingness to learn and utilize the Chorus’s Cross-Choral Training™ method – a proven holistic and experiential approach to teaching voice and musicianship in a group setting. He or she will have the ability and enthusiasm to work as part of an artistic team and possess good networking contacts and skills. In addition, candidates should be fluent with solfege, be an appropriate vocal model, and have a track record of success in teaching musicianship skills.
