The VOCA Chorus of Toronto would like to invite you to a very special concert, "CELTIC TIDE", on Sat., June 1, 7:30 pm at Eastminster United Church, 310 Danforth Ave., Toronto, Ont. (at Jackman Ave., just W. of Chester subway).
Our performance will feature the stunning Celtic Mass for the Sea, commissioned by the CBC in 1988, and composed by the legendary East Coast musician, Scott Macmillan, with libretto by Jennyfer Brickenden. This piece (which has been performed on numerous occasions, including a mass choir concert at Carnegie Hall) is a remarkable ode to the world’s oceans, and a timely homage to World Oceans Day, an event that will be celebrated across the globe on June 8, 2013.
* We're particularly thrilled that both Scott Macmillan (guitar) and Jennyfer Brickenden (narration) will be coming from Halifax, Nova Scotia to perform with us! *
We will also be performing a wide variety of other Celtic choral selections, including several arrangements by our artistic director, Jenny Crober.
Our concert will also feature a stunning instrumental set when our choir and audience will have the opportunity to watch our superb guest musicians 'strut their stuff'!
Joining our choir, our wonderful accompanist, Elizabeth Acker, and our special guests from Halifax will be some of the finest Celtic musicians in Canada: Loretto Reid (tin whistle, Irish flute, concertina, button accordion) Sharlene Wallace (Celtic harp) Rose Bolton (fiddle/violin) Kelly Hood (uilleann pipes) Wendy Solomon (cello) Leon Taheny (bodhrán, percussion)
There will be a variety of raffle items available, as well as delicious home baking and CDs for sale.
Tickets: $25 regular; $20 seniors; $15 students Info., online tickets: www.vocachorus.ca 416-947-8487
Hope to see you there!
