SATB color songsDate: May 30, 2013 Views: 639
Can anyone suggest some SATB songs with colors in the title or in the songs? I know there are many color songs out there, but I'm looking for ones that sound good done with mixed male and female voices. Thank you

"World of Many Colors" is one my new pieces. I'd be happy to send a perusal copy for you. :)
the text is:
REFRAIN
The world is a coat of many colors, every facet of the rainbow;
The prism always changes but the light remains the same.
Many colors, many shadows are we. (the refrain becomes a round at the end of the piece)
VERSE 1
Hear the song we sing, we are dancing even as we fly
On the wings of hope, eternal as the sky.
VERSE 2
Let your voice ring out with the others running on the wind
For the spirit lives inside of every heart.
you can also hear it on youtube.
Thank you,

The lyrics of the second movement of my Earthly Light (for SATB), called "Light Spectrum" are solely the names of the colors of the light spectrum (red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet). Let me know if you'd like a perusal copy.

Joshua Shank wrote a fantastic cycle of pieces called "Color Madrigals." All texts by Keats, all with a color in the title.

My students still have wonderful memories from performing "Sunday" in our color-themed concert a few years ago. Lovely imagery using beautifully colorful descriptions. From "Sunday in the Park with George" by Sondheim.

By the cool blue triangular water; On the soft green elliptical grass; As we pass through arrangements of shadow; Toward the verticals of trees forever; By the blue purple yellow red water; On the green orange violet mass of the grass..."

This is pasted from the Resources-Repertoire-Concert Themes page here on Choralnet... I would add the "Red, Red Rose" by Mulholland, Claussen or Stroope. They're all great. CPDL also has some "color" pieces, but I would also encourage you to search for colors in italian, german and french- you'll only find more choices!

The above list says it all, but I could add one more if Latin is allowed: Whitacre's Lux Arumque ("Light of Gold").
