AGEISM in COMPOSER OPPORTUNITIESDate: June 9, 2013 Views: 65
Colleagues,
An article at NewMusicBox about agemism in composer opportunities has been generating a great deal of comment on some other forums I frequent. I wished to share it with the choral composer community, in case you may not have seen it:
For the record, The American Prize, which I serve as chief judge, has no age restrictions and never will. We do not care how young or old a contestant is, for many of the reasons stated in the article. We categorize "professional" and "student" composers, that is all; entrants select the category which suits their individual situation. Among "student" entrants have been professionals (or retired professionals) in other fields who returned to composing later in life.
All best,
David Katz, chief judge
