SSA/SSAA Mass Settings

My auditioned high school women's ensemble and my mixed ensemble will be performing in Italy next April, where we will be participating in church services.  I am looking for recommendations of a capella mass settings for women's voices.  I am open to settings by Renaissance composers through settings completed this morning.  Thanks for your help.

Many American choirs have used movements of my SHONA MASS (Boosey & Hawkes) for performances in European churches. All are voiced for treble (or variable) voices and require handheld percussion. Four of the five movements (Tenzi, Mbiri kuna Mwari, Akakomborerwa, Hwayana yaMwari) are now published in one volume, with the last (Munoera/Sanctus) published separately.  You can find many performances on YouTube. These pieces, in the style of the Shona People from Zimbabwe, add a nice contrast to the Western Mass settings which are often sung in European churches by American choirs.

Hi David,

I agree with Tim on the Faure- wonderful piece. Lee Kesselman's Shona Mass is also excellent! Speaking of settings completed recently- I just finished a Kyrie for a.c. SSA (a little further divisi, about 3-4 minutes) for an eventual Missa Brevis for women's voices. The Kyrie will probably be premiered in November by a college choir. I would be happy to show you this Kyrie via pdf file. I think it is quite beautiful harmonically and also has some real counterpoint in it! Let me know if you would like to see it,  and anyone else interested please let me know.

Personally, I love Nancy Telfer's Missa Brevis. I also performed Mark Sirret's  'Missa Brevis for a Young Girl' this spring, and my choir loved it. I discovered a 3-part mass by André Caplet which I'm considering for next year.
