Linda Marcus, Robert Ross, Jack Senzig, Announce New Piece

This is a great day to show the success of our community.  Julie Myers started a thread on lyrics a few months ago that led to a collaboration between Linda, Robert and me.   We wanted to write a piece to express our deep emotions caused by the horrible events in Newtown, Connecticut.   Another lyricist, Ken Matejka also joined us.   We have a piece we hope will allow choirs and audiences to engage in the moving subject matter and bring a little healing to their souls.
This is particularly special to me as it is my first piece joining you on the Showcase.  It changes the dynamics a little  but may lead to me sharing some of my other works.  I have held back to keep my advocacy from being self-serving.   But I guess it is time.
I really enjoyed focusing on the melody while Robert handled the difficult parts and Linda and Ken wrote the lyrics.  This was a lot of fun and very fulfilling.

Congratulations to all of you! This is one of the more real potentials of this community--a good collaboration space.
And Jack, you have held back long and appropriately, no one could complain about your finally taking a turn.
I looked at the score and sang through it and I honestly started tearing up at the lyric "they left beautiful unfinished melodies". Though I cannot truly conceive how a parent would feel at the loss of a young child (my wife Randi and I have always felt it would be the worst thing possible to experience), particularly losing them in such a horrible way, that lyric seems to me to perfectly and beautifully express the shocking bereft/cheated sense of something lovely that you loved, just cut off . . . and gone.
(It sounds like your piece could work as a companion to my "Let the Children Play and Learn in Peace", which is bout looking forward to a better vision of life for children and the world.)
Again, congratulations and blessings on you all.

Thanks David.  Yes when Linda shared an early draft of the lyrics comparing their beautiful lives to unfinished melodies I lost it.  I think she did a great job of saying something that is difficult to say and more difficult to sing appropriately.  This is a very delicate topic.  I do believe our piece would program well with Let the Children Play as well.  I have been contemplating a Spotlight Article but it feels too self serving.  I might try an article on works for Newtown.

I am so pleased that this collaboration and others are taking place through contacts made here on ChoralNet.  Congratulations to you and your collaborators on your handling of such a deeply emotional subject.
David is right; it is your time to take a turn.  I look forward to seeing some of your other works.  A spotlight or article on works for Newtown is a good idea...make sure to include this one.
