Cross-Choral Training™ Workshop: Applied Vocal and Musicianship Pedagogy with Dianne Berkun and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus
Explore the proven and successful training methods of the Grammy® award winning Brooklyn Youth Chorus and learn how to prepare your chorus to sing challenging music of varied styles and genres in an educational context and on the professional stage. Through demonstrations, interactive discussions, and performances by members of BYC, participants learn both the art and the science of vocal and musicianship pedagogy to achieve real breakthroughs with choruses of all ages.
Join us for an intensive two-day workshop, or take your skills to the next level with our extended year-long training program.
The C-CT™ voice program, proven healthy and effective through independent research published in the Journal of Voice, cross-trains the voice to assume a variety of vocal adjustments aimed at the healthy development of the instrument for its own sake, as well as for expressive and stylistic purposes. As conductors continue to explore music of varied origins and styles it is clear that there is not a “one sound fits all” approach to singing. Programs that span classical music to contemporary, world, folk, pop and beyond are extremely demanding and require a variable vocal quality, wide pitch range and advanced technique. Over the past 20 years, the C-CT™ program, developed with voice specialist Jeannette LoVetri, has helped BYC become the ensemble of choice for both professional orchestras and popular artists ranging from New York Philharmonic and the London Symphony to Elton John and Barbra Streisand.
The C-CT™ musicianship program is aimed at developing musicians with the skills and understanding to study and perform in virtually any musical context. Several complementary systems are used for reading and sight-singing music to provide the greatest fluency in the widest range of settings – from the classroom to the symphony hall.
