Keeping choral risers quiet?

It makes me batty when my choir risers creak and squeak during concerts. I have wenger signature risers and now that I've had them for a few years they seem to make noise even if a singer shifts their weight.
Does anyone one have any tricks? I've heard wd40 might work, but don't want to damage anything. I've also heard there is a trick with using talcum powder on stairs in theatre staging that might work - but that seems pretty sketchy! :)
Tthanks for any any tired and true methods anyone might have.
