34th ANNUAL NATIONAL CONDUCTORS' SYMPOSIUM

"I don't know any other workshop that provides this much podium time and gives a young emerging artist the opportunity to work with so many professional singers."

"Working with an ensemble of this calibre was a phenomenal experience and six days of intensive work allowed for major growth in many areas."

"The time spent with colleagues, friends and mentors was incredibly valuable to me as a young conductor. The round table discussions were particularly useful and thought-provoking."

"I would say that each of us had breakthroughs during the week - and observing those breakthroughs is almost as valuable as experiencing them."

"It was a positive, transformative experience for me."

Jon Washburn and the Vancouver Chamber Choir will present the 34th annual National Conductors' Symposium January 20-25, 2014 in Vancouver, Canada. The symposium offers selected conductors an opportunity to take part in masterclasses with Canada's premier choral ensemble.

APPLICATION DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 8, 2013

The application form is available here.

Five applicants will be chosen to participate as Conductors, receiving significant time with the Vancouver Chamber Choir in rehearsal and performance in the final concert THE WORLD IN MUSIC on January 25. As many as 10 additional applicants will be selected as Observers and be involved in all aspects of the Symposium, including one opportunity to conduct.

Master Conductor Jon Washburn oversees the conducting and evaluation sessions, providing insight on choral techniques, conducting gesture and score interpretation.
