"The Christmas Truce" premiere - Sat 9 Nov - London

Location: England, United Kingdom
Voicing: Mixed
Saturday 9 November 2013 sees the first performance of a new choral work, "The Christmas Truce", at Rosslyn Hill Unitarian Chapel in Hampstead, London NW3 1NG (United Kingdom). This new 20-minute piece is the creation of award-winning composer and arranger Paul Ayres, setting the poem published in 2011 by the British poet laureate Carol Ann Duffy. The performers are combined forces of the Queldryk Choral Ensemble and the London College of Music Chamber Choir, with tenor soloist William Petter and accompanist William Vann, under the direction of the composer. Other works in the programme include settings of Shakespeare, Howard Thurman, Francis Quarles, and arrangements of "The White Cliffs of Dover" and "The Very Thought of You". Immediately before the musical premiere, professional actor Catherine Harvey will recite the Duffy poem, and a selection of the poet's latest volumes will be available for sale. The concert is held in aid of landmine clearance charity the HALO Trust, and tickets (GBP15 / GBP7.50) may be ordered via quelchoir@gmail.com. extra note to the Choralnet international community:
The story of the events of Christmas Day 1914 are fairly well-known here in the UK - I'd be interested to know if they are in the public consciousness in other countries. Here are a few links to read up on the history --
