The Bells of Christmas with the Colorado Repertory Singers
Date: November 12, 2013
Location: Colorado, USA
Members of the Colorado Repertory Singers will perform "The Bells of Christmas" on December 6 at the Broomfield Auditorium, and December 7 at Broomfield United Methodist Church. Both performances are at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $10 ($8 for Seniors and Students; 10 and under free) and may be purchased at the door or online at crs.ticketleap.com.
CRS invites you to join us for “The Bells of Christmas” as we pay homage to a centennial celebration of composer, conductor and pianist Benjamin Britten (1913-1976). We will perform his Ceremony of Carols, accompanied by Don Hilsberg on harp. This cycle of medieval and sixteenth century poems contains a madrigal-like Welcome (Wolcum Yole,) some exciting movements (This Little Babe and Deo Gracias,) as well as a chilling Interlude performed by the harp.
The concert will begin and conclude with two settings of Carol of the Bells: the traditional setting and a fresh and innovative rendition, which will be premiered at the concert. This setting was arranged by Ken Clifton especially for our Artistic Director Mark Stamper and the Colorado Repertory Singers. The second half of the concert consists of a light-hearted approach to Christmas music. Familiar secular tunes, such as Deck the Halls, Jingle Bells, Silver Bells, and Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas will take the audience on a journey down memory lane.
CRS is pleased to welcome Mr. Stamper as our new Artistic Director. A native of South Carolina, Mark comes to us via Fort Worth, Texas, where he served as the Artistic Director of the nationally renowned Singing Girls of Texas, the Principal Accompanist and Chorus Master for the Fort Worth Opera, and taught at Texas Wesleyan University. With conducting experience widespread among many genres of music, Mr. Stamper's depth includes ballet, choral, opera, orchestral, and Broadway musicals. In addition to directing CRS, Mark teaches high school choir, serves as a church musician and is the Artistic Director of Northland Chorale.
