LA Master Chorale Presents 33rd Annual Messiah Sing-Along
Date: December 5, 2013
Location: California, USA
Choir type: Professional Choirs
Angelenos are invited to belt out the “Hallelujah” chorus – and all of the other glorious choruses from Handel’s beloved Messiah – at the Los Angeles Master Chorale’s 33rd Annual Messiah Sing-Along on Wednesday, December 11, 2013, 7:30 pm, at the iconic Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles. Music Director Grant Gershon conducts the 2,200-member audience, which serves as the choir, a professional chamber orchestra and four professional soloists from the Chorale: Zanaida Robles, soprano, Niké St. Clair, mezzo soprano, Arnold Livingston Geis, tenor, and Chung Uk Lee, bass. Sopranos, altos, tenors and basses of all skill levels – even those with absolutely no singing experience – are welcome. Messiah scores are available for $10 at the door.
“The Messiah Sing-Along is one of the highlights of the holiday,” says Gershon, “You can't help but feel the spirit of the season when you're literally surrounded by 2,200 people joined together in song.”
Reflecting the global popularity of Handel’s Messiah, Founding Music Director Roger Wagner brought the tradition to Los Angeles in 1980 after learning of the success of the “Do-It-Yourself Messiah” in Chicago. During its 50 year history, the Chorale has presented the Baroque masterpiece a record 70 times since its inception in 1964, with 57 of those performances sung by the community at large as part of the Chorale’s famed Messiah Sing-Along, which FOX-TV calls “the best around” and KABC-TV describes as “comforting and uplifting.”
Tickets range from $29 - $79. Group rates are available. For tickets and information, please call (213) 972-7282, or visit www.lamc.org.
