Cornell University Glee Club at Shadyside Presbyterian Church
Shadyside Presbyterian Church presents the Cornell University Glee Club on Sunday, January 5, 2014, at 10:45 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.  The Cornell Glee Club also will serve as the choir for worship during that morning’s service.
The church’s Music and Fine Arts Ministries welcome the Pittsburgh community to attend worship at 11:00 a.m., preceded by a choral prelude sung by the Cornell Glee Club beginning at 10:45 a.m.  Worship is followed by a time of fellowship with light refreshments at noon in the church’s Sharp Atrium.  The audience is then invited to return to the sanctuary from 12:30 to 1:00 p.m. for a free concert from the Glee Club, under the direction of conductor Robert Isaacs.
Founded in 1868, the Cornell University Glee Club is Cornell University’s oldest student organization and one of the oldest men’s choirs in the United States.  The group has performed songs of Bernstein on Malaysian television and songs of Shostakovich in the Moscow conservatory, sung in more than a dozen languages, logged hundreds of thousands of miles, and brought music to millions of people as near and far as the students of Cornell and rural school children in Taiwan.  Today, the Cornell University Glee Club is recognized as one of America’s premier male choruses.
Robert Isaacs, the newly appointed Priscilla E. Browning Director of Choral Activities at Cornell University, became the ninth conductor of the ensemble this autumn.  Isaacs has previously run choral programs at Princeton University and the Manhattan School of Music.  He also recently served as interim director of the National Youth Choir of Great Britain, where he earned international renown for his performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony for a BBC Proms presentation coinciding with the 2012 London Olympics.
