Songs of Home - Pennsylvania Academy of Performing Arts Concordia Concert
Date: January 14, 2014
Location: Pennsylvania, USA
Choir type: Community Choirs
Come aboard for the first leg of A Singer’s Journey. The Pennsylvania Academy of Performing Arts' Concordia will present its winter concert series “Songs of Home” in two choral concerts, under the direction of S. Katherine Shealy, assisted by Christopher G. McGinley.
The first concert will take place on Saturday, January 25th at 7:30 pm at the Church of the Good Samaritan, 212 West Lancaster Ave., Paoli, PA. The second concert will take place on Sunday, January 26th at 3:00 pm at the Christ Community Church, 1190 Phoenixville Pike, West Chester, PA.
The program is the first installment in a three part, year-long concert series called A Singer's Journey. “Songs of Home” will primarily feature exciting renditions of American folk songs and spirituals, such as “She'll Be Comin' Round the Mountain” arranged by Emma Lou Diemer and “Home on the Range” arranged by Mark Hayes. In addition, the program will explore alternative meanings of "home”: Virgil Thomson's arrangement of the well-known hymn “My Shepherd Will Supply My Need” focuses on finding comfort in God, while Dan Forrest's “Over Havet” beautifully describes the journey to create a new home.
Most recently, PAPA’s choirs have performed at the West Chester Old Fashioned Christmas celebration, the Brandywine River Museum, the Reading Phillies, Fox29’s GoodDay, and in multiple collaborations with Uptown! Entertainment Alliance. For more information about upcoming concerts and auditions, to purchase tickets, or to schedule a performance, please visit www.PAperforming.org.
