Redondo Beach Baroque Festival

The 6th Annual Redondo Beach Baroque Festival will take place on Friday, Febuary 21st and Saturday, February 22nd. For the Friday 7:30pm concert, Soprano Suzanne Anderson and a trio of male singers will present “Monteverdi’s Lonely Hearts Club Band,” a program of love songs from 17th Century Italy. Accompanied by theorbo and viola da gamba, the singers will share works by Claudio Monteverdi, Sigismondo d’India, Benedetto Ferrari and Barbara Strozzi. On Saturday, the Los Angeles Recorder Orchestra and conductor Tom Axworthy will perform a program of music written and arranged for recorders by Baroque composers John Adson, Johann Schmelzer, Jehan Tabouot, and J.S. Bach. The festival will conclude on Saturday night with a 7:30pm conert by Tesserae Early Musci Ensemble called “Esset, Meine Lieben, und trinket!” featuring Johann Christoph Bach’s wedding cantata Meine Freundin du bist Schön, together with music by Dietrich Buxtehude and Johann Schein. An Early Music jam session will follow the concert and is open to the public. Free will donation for all concerts.
