UNT Collegium Singers - CPE Bach Magnificat
Date: February 21, 2014
Location: Texas, USA
Choir type: College and University Choirs
Celebrating the 300th Anniversary of C.P.E. Bach's birth, the University of North Texas Collegium Singers (Richard Sparks, conductor) and Baroque Orchestra (Paul Leenhouts, conductor) do a program of music by CPE and other composers from that era.
Under the direction of Richard Sparks, both groups perform CPE Bach's Magnificat, a wonderful work that should be more often performed. Fabulous choruses and arias--the Deposuit and the final double fugue are a distinct nod to his father, but many arias show the transition from the baroque to the rococo. The UNT Baroque Orchestra plays period instruments and all soloists come from the choir.
The concert is Tuesday, February 25 at 8 PM Central Time in the Murchison Performing Arts Center. If you can't get there in person, the concert is live-streamed in high definition: http://recording.music.unt.edu/live
The Magnificat is the second half of the program.
