The University of North Texas University Singers and Concert Orchestra, under the direction of Richard Sparks, perform Canadian composer Allan Bevan's Nou goth sonne under wode, a 30 minute Good Friday meditation in four movements, Monday, March 3 at 8 PM in the MPAC, UNT. Oneyda Padierna is soprano soloist and UNT voice faculty member Stephen Morscheck is narrator.
The concert will be live-streamed at 8 PM, central time, at http://recording.music.unt.edu/live
The Bevan is the second half of the program (the first half, conducted by Clay Couturiaux, includes music by Ibert and Haydn).
Bevan's meditation is scored for soprano soloist, narrator, chorus, and orchestra (2 oboes, 2 horns, harp, percussion, timpani, organ, and strings). It was commissioned and premiered by Pro Coro Canada with Richard Sparks conducting.
It was part of a Good Friday program with the Mozart Requiem. The notable thing was that the audience, naturally, came for the Mozart, but the Bevan was what got an immediate standing ovation. It's a beautiful and expressive work that deserves to be more widely known.
