Landing page notes

To all:
My variant of the Showcase landing page is pretty complete.  Please take a look and see what needs fixing.
There are a few obvious means of implementation when we're happy with the results.
  1. Have the webmaster repoint the landing page.  (I assume we can't do that on our own.)  Only real drawback is relinking all the pages that currently point to the existing Showcase page.
  2. Copy the existing page to an archival page, then cut-and-paste the new contents in its place.  Assuming it works, this would eliminate the relink issues.
  3. Move the existing Community Home to a "Community Vision" page, then move the new contents there and repoint.  Of course, that also means relinking.
Opinions?  #3 is the most work, but has the benefit of making landing and home pages equal.  #2 is probably the easiest.

I checked the llinks under the resource tab and they do point to the showcase page address.  I can make the new page the landing page of the showcase but you are right, the old links would still go to the old page.    I can ask the webmaster to change the links on the resource pageafter making the new landing page by THEE landing page.  I just need to know what else I need to say to him.  ???
We do have another address that points there:  I am not sure where that will lead if we change the landing page.

Sounds like option #2 may involve the fewest headaches.  I'll test to see if it will work.  If so, we won't have to worry the webmaster at all.

It looks like cut-and-paste will do the job.  If no one finds problems with the revised page, I'll back up the current one and drop the new in its place sometime mid-week.

Landing page is modified.  Y'all let me know if you have suggestions.
I'll also look at the voicings bar on the individual voice pages to see if they can be prettied a bit.

Now that I see it all put together, I would suggest moving the "Join us" and community features below the showcase info.  Curently it is below the fold.  All the marketing research I have read says that will lead to less clicks.  Compoosers joining us are morte likely to click below the fold as they are looking for something other than repertoire to purchase.
What do you all think?

OK by me.  We've got the challenge that our general entry page (though not "home") for the community is also the showcase.  But it's probably true that first-time visitors are more likely to be looking for music.  We lonely composers looking for a home are persistent enough to get below the fold.
Maybe a one-liner of purpose followed by the showcase?  I'll play with it this weekend and develop some alternatives.

I'm trying to think of what I did when I went looking for music for my choir.  I remember standing in front of a large stack of music and quickly skimming through a lot of scores.  I'm wondering if we should have the composers add a 'text' or 'subject' field to their scores.  That way, if I'm looking for a song about a chair, I can more easily find it.  Something like the Fall/Winter link that's already there.
Unfortunately, and I don't know of a way around this, the scores most people see first, are the ones which come earliest in the alphabet.  I wonder how many of the P-Q-R scores get looked at.
Do we have any stats on which pages are being viewed?
Just some thoughts.

That is what the more info line is for. If someone searches the page they are on with a key word it will take them to it. I'm not sure how to publicize the ability to search.

We don not yet have such info though it has been requested.

I've moved "Join Us" and "Community Features" below the "Showcase" on the landing page.  Not sure which I like better, but I'll leave it that way to give us a chance to digest the difference.  Let me know.

I like it much better.  We have had a few discussions about wanting the community links to land the user right on the showcase.  You have done that nicely.
In re-reading the first paragraph I think we miss the hook of this resource.  I believe in what we have here because it provides a terrific sampler of the best we each have to offer.  I don't know if you remember the posts I made early on after spending over a dozen hours trying to find quality music on member websites.  The culling of the herd is of GREAT value to conductors.  I would suggest we try a wording more like this:
"Save time finding quality music by living composers. Unique to the web, only the best works by each composer are allowed here.   If you like what you find, follow the links to the composers’ websites or communicate with them by e-mail to find even more."

It's been a busy couple of weeks.  I made some minor changes to the first paragraph - nothing much but a bit up-punched.

I do like that better.  Thanks.
