Oratorio Society of New Jersey Spring Concert on April 5
Date: March 20, 2014
Location: New Jersey, USA
Choir type: Community Choirs
The Oratorio Society of New Jersey, under the direction of Dr. Sándor Szabó, will present Karl Jenkins’ The Armed Man and Handel’s Dettingen Te Deum on Saturday, April 5, at 8 pm at Immaculate Conception Church, 30 North Fullerton Avenue, Montclair, NJ. The Armed Man, subtitled A Mass for Peace, was commissioned by the Royal Armouries Museum for the Millenium celebrations in the United Kingdom and dedicated to victims of the Kosovo crisis. One of the most frequently performed new works for choir and orchestra, The Armed Man describes the horrors of war but then offers the hope of peace to end armed conflict. More than two centuries earlier, Handel comosed Dettingen Te Deum commemorate King George II’s victory over the French in 1743. Joining the Oratorio Society chorus for this performance will be soloists Andrea Bargabos (soprano), Kathryn Krasovec (mezzo-soprano), Christopher Lucier, (tenor), and Arthur Woodley (bass). Admission to the concert is $20, and tickets may be purchased at the door. CDs of past performances will be on sale as well. Please note that Immaculate Conception is handicap accessible and free parking is available.
