Repertoire Lent 4 2014

We sang a well received piece today called Love Lifted Me arr. Joseph Martin. It is for SATB, Flute and piano.  We are blessed with an excellent flutist.  The only thing I don't like is that the flute part is not all in the score, rather on the back page.  There are no + fl pr - fl markings.  The piano part is a bit difficult with running 16ths in 6/8 time.   Difficulty 3
I would buy this piece again.

We had a wonderful morning. We presented “The King of Love my Shepherd Is” by Edward C. Bairstow, Published by Oxford University Press (9780193853515) for SATB + organ. This is an arrangement of the hymn text by Henry W. Baker, and the Irish melody St. Columba. It is rather easy choral writing, with the exception of one verse. In this verse, the composer has inserted a counter melody for sopranos. The challenge lies in the accompaniment, which is obbligato-ish, with a chordal accompaniment. Once the choir and the accompaniment come together, it is a most gratifying experience for choir and listener.

Our choir did not sing once again this Sunday, due to an unexpected change in the Bell Choir's schedule - they played special music yesterday.  I do look forward to this discussion, both contributing and reading the info others post!
