Is anyone aware of a good resource for Estonian pronunication?

I have a short publication by Mimi Daitz called "How to Pronounce Estonian: A Brief Guide for Singers and Conductors." It's published by Fennica Gehrman, but I can't remember where I got it. Maybe Earthsongs?

Hi, Leonard,
I happened to see this post and took it upon myself to ask around. Vance Wolverton has written many articles for Choral Journal on Baltic choral music and has extensive experience traveling the Baltic regions. He recommended the following resources, which I thought I would pass along to you.
Best of luck!
1. Mimi S. Daitz: How to Pronounce Estonian/A Brief Guide for Singers and Conductors.  Helsinki: Fennica Gehrman (, 2003, ISMN M-55009-221-1.
2. Tiina K. Ets: Estonian/Language Competencies for Peace Corps Volunteers in the Republic of Estonia, 1992.  (I don't know if this publication is still available, but I have a copy from which the pronunciation guide might be copied.)
3. Mart Aru and Maila Saar: English-Estonian/Conversation Guide.  Tallinn: Kirjastus Ilo, 1998; ISBN 9985-57-225-4.  Very useful spiral-bound, pocket-sized book.

The best resource would be a living, walking, talking Estonian. They do exist, though not everywhere (it's a small country, and "everywhere" might spread them too thinly). We were fortunate last season when performing Tormis to have the assistance of a native Estonian speaker, who, while providing much-needed help, reassured us that it's very similar to Finnish, with which many of us have more experience. So if you've done any Sibelius or Rautavaara (et al.) you're already there, in essence.
Best regards,

Thanks to all -- this is a great help.  And, yes, I have the walking, talking friend as well.
