The New Jersey Choral Consortium invites male singers 18 and over, whether they sing in a chorus or a church or synagogue choir, to join together to perform selections of music showing the broad range of the men’s rich choral music tradition. Matthew Oltman, Music Director Emeritus of the renowned male vocal ensemble Chanticleer, joins the New Jersey Choral Consortium as workshop director and conductor. The day will be divided into both sectionals and group sessions, with the concert to follow at 6 pm in the church sanctuary. All rooms are air-conditioned.
Currently the Artistic Director of the Empire City Men’s Chorus in New York, Mr. Oltman is also on the staff of Distinguished Concerts International New York in Program Development. Mr. Oltman began his tenure with Chanticleer as a tenor, then served as Associate Director for several years. In 2009, he was appointed Music Director. During his three seasons as Music Director at Chanticleer, Mr. Oltman led the ensemble in over 300 concerts in more than a dozen countries. He helped launch the Chanticleer Live in Concert recording label, which released some of the best of Chanticleer’s vast trove of archival recordings, and was also the editor of the Chanticleer Choral Series, published by Hinshaw Music.
The repertoire for this Men’s Workshop will include traditional favorites such as Fauré’s Cantique de Jean Racine and the traditional Appalachian hymn Guide Me O Thou Great Jehovah, and will also include contemporary selections such as Wana Baraka, by Shawn Kirchner.
Registration fee is $30 by May 1 and $35 after May 1. A maximum of 100 participants can be accommodated at this workshop.
