The Dana School of Music and the Stambaugh Chorus jointly announce a special presentation of Karl
Jenkins’ The Armed Man: A Mass for Peace on Sunday, May 4, 6:00 p.m. at Stambaugh Auditorium,
1000 Fifth Avenue, Youngstown, OH 44504. The concert will feature the YSU Wind Ensemble,
Stambaugh Chorus, and Dana Symphonic Choir, Stephen Gage & Hae-Jong Lee, Conductors.
The Armed Man is a Mass by Welsh composer Karl Jenkins, subtitled "A Mass for Peace." The piece
was commissioned by the Royal Armories Museum for the millennium celebrations, and to mark the
museum's move from London to Leeds.

A couple of years after the work’s premiere, an accompanying film was produced by film maker and
director Hefin Owen, as part of a televised birthday concert of the composer at St. David’s Hall, Cardiff.
The film will accompany the presentation.

The Armed Man has been performed nearly 1300 times all over the world since the
premiere in 2000 and has established itself as the most frequently programmed new choral/orchestral
work of recent decades. It is particularly significant to perform this work in this year, as we
commemorate the centenary of the start of the First World War and the 75th anniversary of the outbreak
of the Second World War.

The concert will begin with Glory Days, composed by YSU faculty Dr. David Morgan, and Winter Sky
by Stephen Barr. Senior YSU Wind Ensemble members will be introduced and recognized before they
perform Slava! by Leonard Bernstein/arr. Clare Grundman. The Stambaugh Chorus & Dana Symphonic
Choir will perform Prayer of Children by Kurt Bestor/arr. Andrea Clause and then all groups will
perform the 13 movements of The Armed Man.

Soloists include Rebecca Enlow, soprano, in movements 3 and 13; Lisa Gonzalez, soprano, in
movement 8; Kathryn Kramer, mezzo soprano, in movements 8, 11 and13; Victor Cardamone, tenor, in
movements 8 and 13; and Raymond Wagner Jr., baritone, in movements 8 and 13.

Tickets are $10 per person. YSU students with a valid ID and high school student tickets are $5.
Tickets are available by calling the Stambaugh Auditorium Box Office at 330-259-0555, by visiting
