Choral Festival or Competition

Good Evening:
I am searching for a high quality festival and/or competition for a high school Chamber Choir.  We are unable to attend our usual event next year due to some scheduling issues. This needs to be a high qulaity experience - not the typical buy a trophy high school choir festival. Any ideas? Spring 2015 is ideal timing.

What was your "usual" event? I ask simply because the only festival/competitions I know of are just as you describe - "buy a trophy."

As Executive Director at Choirs of America, I am, admittedly, biased.  However, I can wholeheartedly and without reservation recommend any of our programs.  All of them meet your criteria.  2015 dates, locations and details may be found at

My question is; do you need to compete at all?  After years of "doing the throphy thing", I found it just as (if not more) rewarding to set up performances in communities where we travel. They become published events, and are attended by the public rather than 2 judges, and, with a little research, you are able to choose the venue. If you are looking for something closer to home, set up your own festival, with or without judges (it's easy to find knowledgeable choral educators), invite neighboring choirs, and donate the proceeds to charity. It's a win-win situation.  Good luck to you,

I agree.  Perform out and about in communities and connect your students with the society they live in.  Be ambassadors for music education and education in general.  Show the public directly what great things are happening in the arts thanks to their tax dollars.

The Youth Choir Festival  Northwest   in Tacoma Washington is wonderful, last year we worked with the wonderful Andre Thomas and had an amazing experience. Here is their website

Good morning,
With respect, I think I want to ponder this query.
Before I do, however, I'd appreciate understanding what you mean when you use the term 'high quality' festival and/or competition.
  Thank you.
