Cordus Mundi & Friends in Concert for Father’s Day
Male a cappella singing group Cordus Mundi will complete the choral season Sunday afternoon, June 15 with the group’s annual Cordus & Friends concert at Trinity Episcopal Church in Solebury. This Father’s Day concert starts with a set from Cordus Mundi, followed by the main program featuring a full choir (Cordus Mundi plus invited soprano and alto Friends), along with guest conductor Dr. David N. Fryling of Hofstra University. Concert repertoire comes from a diverse array of styles, eras, and composers, including works by Rachmaninoff, Betinis, Clausen, Hill, Hairston, Gjeilo, Mendelssohn, Palestrina, Barnum, Finzi, Stanford, Monk and more.
Guest conductor David N. Fryling, a Dublin, PA native and son of Cordus Mundi music director David W. Fryling and Cordus & Friends soprano Janet Fryling, is associate professor of music and director of choral studies at Hofstra University, NY, where he oversees the choral department, conducts the select Hofstra Chorale and Hofstra Chamber Choir, and teaches at the under-graduate and graduate levels. Dr. Fryling is an engaging and energetic guest conductor, clinician and adjudicator of professional, community, and public school choirs. He is the current president of the eastern division of the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA).
Since their Bucks County beginnings in 2005, Cordus Mundi has developed a strong reputation across the region for quality music, eclectic repertoire, and entertaining performances. Cordus Mundi performs regularly at a variety of area concert venues. The group recently released their first CD, Tracks, recorded live during their November, 2013 concerts, and available for purchase online and at Cordus Mundi concerts.
“We’ve had a very full schedule between our concerts, the CD release, and several additional appearances this year, and we’re very pleased to bring it all to a grand conclusion in the best possible way with Dr. Fryling and our soprano and alto friends, “ notes Cordus Mundi founder/artistic director Rick Rosen. “Dr. Fryling’s musical insights are extraordinary, and he brings out the very best in each of his male and female singers – this will be quite a concert.”
Cordus & Friends takes place on Sunday, June 15 @ 4:00 p.m. at Trinity Episcopal Church, 6587 Upper York Rd. in Solebury. General admission tickets are $15.00. For tickets and additional information, contact Cordus Mundi at 650.219.2748, on Facebook, or online at www.cordusmundi.com.
