St. Petersburg, FL: St. Thomas Episcopal Church, a large and friendly congregation that appreciates music is seeking a new director of music. Candidates will be familiar with the Episcopal Liturgy and be knowledgeable of traditional Anglican anthems, chant, and occasional renewal hymns. The candidate will work well with people and in conjunction with the rector, plan music for two Sunday services, Holy Week and Easter, Easter Vigil, Lessons and Carols (or similar), Christmas Eve, Feast Days, etc. Weddings and funerals are for extra compensation and the organist has first right of refusal.
The resplendent acoustic of the church building makes it an ideal location for music. The facility includes a well-equipped choir room, an E.M. Skinner IV/53, a Steinway Grand in the Sanctuary, a Baldwin Spinet in the choir room, a Schulmerich Carillon, and a set of Schulmerich 3 octave handbells.
The Handbell and Chancel Choirs meet weekly for rehearsal, the Children’s Choir sings for special occasions. There are two Sunday services, 8:00 a.m. (organ only) and 10:00 a.m. (choir(s) and organ). Instrumentalists are brought in occasionally and at Christmas and Easter. Wednesday evenings provide time for a hymn during Supper, Song and Prayer.
