St. Thomas seeks applications for the position of Music Director.  The position, to start in September 2014, is half-time, compensation commensurate with experience and according to AGO rates. 
St. Thomas is a thriving parish in the Upper Valley of the Connecticut River, next to Dartmouth College.  Delighting in the present role of music in our church programs, we wish further to develop its potential, both as a core liturgical ministry and as a mission in the wider community.
Music of high quality, both choral and instrumental, is essential to the life and liturgy of St. Thomas.  Our practice is built on the Anglican tradition, but draws also on other times and places, including new music.
The Music Director will
*rehearse, direct, and accompany the adult choir(s) at Sunday Eucharist(s) and major feasts and times in the Christian year, honoring the liturgies of the Book of Common Prayer
*select instrumental and choral music for worship services, and develop non-liturgical musical programs, both in consultation with the Rector
*collaborate with the Children’s Choir Director, and support the ministry of the Children’s Choir
*encourage and coach other musical expression
*help select and play music as needed for weddings and funerals (supplementary compensation)
The Music Director is a vital part of the ministry of the parish as a whole.  A more detailed description of current and projected musical activities is available to serious candidates.
The organ is a Rodgers Model 960 combination organ with a full complement of speakers, 10 ranks of pipes, and Zimbelstern.  Further specifications on request.
