Location: naperville, Illinois, USA
The Ss. Peter and Paul Choir has one bass position open for the 2014-2015 season. There are a total of 12 Choral Scholar positions in the choir. While we only have positions open for bass, tenor, and soprano, we are interested in hearing auditions for all sections. Choral Scholars must possess excellent sight reading skills and be able to commit to the choir's demanding schedule. A complete job description for Choral Scholars is available upon request. Please feel free to pass this note along to any singers you think might be a good fit for us! We also have openings for exceptional volunteers.
The Ss. Peter and Paul Choir is composed of approximately 40 professional and volunteer singers from throughout the Metropolitan Chicago area and beyond. The Choir provides music for the 9:30 a.m. Solemn Mass each Sunday and major Feast Days and Solemnities from September through June. The Choir also maintains a rigorous schedule of pontifical celebrations, recordings, and concerts.
While twentieth century choral music forms the core of its repertoire, the Choir has received accolades for its performances of romantic and renaissance polyphony, as well. The choir’s repertoire of Byrd, Palestrina, and Tallis is balanced by music of Herbert Howells, Maurice Duruflé, Leo Nestor, and Morten Lauridsen. The Choir tours internationally every two to three years, and has a tour to Paris, Lourdes and Barcelona planned for 2016. Additionally the choir records a professional recording every season and is in the process of completing two recordings from their 2014 Concert Tour to Rome, where they sang the Vigil Mass for the Canonization of Popes John XXIII and John Paul II, as well as a concert performance with the National Italian Television Orchestra in honor of the Canonization of the Popes.
The members of the Choral Scholars are the professional core of the Choir and specialize in the interpretation of Gregorian Chant, a cappella music from the renaissance, and more intricate choral music by modern day composers such as Leo Nestor, Eric Whitacre, Morten Lauridsen and Rene Clausen. The Choral Scholars also maintain a rigorous schedule of liturgical performances for weddings and various other liturgical services.
Auditions for the Ss. Peter and Paul Choral Scholars are held by appointment with the Director of Sacred Music. For further information, please call Lindsey Dondanville in the Office of sacred Music at 630.718.2206.
