Paid Choral Scholars: seeking 1 soprano, 1-2 tenors, 2-3 basses

Location: Chicago area: Joliet, Illinois, USA
The Cathedral of Saint Raymond Nonnatus in Joliet, Illinois seeks experienced singers to fill soprano, tenor, and bass positions in its resident professional Cathedral Schola.  Choral Scholars should have the training and ability to sing a wide range of choral repertoire with a warm vocal tone, and must have excellent sight-reading, musical, and interpersonal skills.  In addition, Choral Scholars must be able to commit to the Cathedral Schola's rigorous rehearsal and performance schedule. There are generally two choral calls per week, including a Thursday evening rehearsal and a Sunday morning rehearsal & liturgy, plus extra calls for large diocesan liturgical events throughout the choral season, which extends from mid-September through early-June.  The Cathedral Schola forms the core of the Cathedral Choir, and members serve as section leaders in the larger ensemble.  The Cathedral Schola also sings as a stand-alone ensemble on occasion, and repertoire spans the centuries from Medieval chant and Renaissance polyphony to the finest sacred choral music of our own time.
A complete job description for Choral Scholars and the complete 2014–2015 choir schedule are available upon request.
The Cathedral of Saint Raymond Nonnatus is located less than 45 minutes from downtown Chicago, and the stipend-per-call for Choral Scholars is highly competitive.  Additional stipended opportunities abound for Cathedral Schola members who wish to serve as cantors for Cathedral masses, weddings, and funerals.  To schedule an audition for the Cathedral Schola, please contact Cathedral Director of Music Dr. Randall Swanson at or call 815.722.6653 x222.
We also have openings in all voice parts for exceptional volunteers.
Please feel free to forward this notice to any singers you think might be a good fit for us!
