San Diego Children's Choir Neighborhood Choir Accompanist/Assistant

Location: San Diego, California, USA
POSITION: Accompanist/Assistant, Neighborhood Choir, San Diego Children’s Choir (Part-Time Artistic Staff)

A SDCC Neighborhood Choir Accompanist/Assistant is responsible for providing musical accompaniment and instructional assistance to between 8 and 30 choristers at a given location in a once-weekly hour-long session. Choristers consist of 1st through 5th graders of varying ages and skill levels, many with little to no musical training. NC accompanists will accompany and assist with 3 to 5 songs each semester, as well as game songs and movement activities, at the location(s) to which they are assigned. NC accompanists may be requested to participate in performances, but their general responsibility is assisting with the weekly rehearsal.
Accompanists/Assistants should have music reading skills to accompany the children. Experience working with elementary-aged children, in a music instruction setting, is helpful. Spanish speaking ability is a plus. Together with the director, NC accompanists assist in inspiring the children and teaching songs along with basic theory techniques (beat vs. rhythm, dynamics, etc.), basic sight-reading skills, proper vocal technique and performance etiquette.
