Vallejo Choral Society Seeks Accompanist

The Vallejo Choral Society Seeks an Accompanist.

(The reply deadline has been extended to August 8, 2014.  Applicants who have already applied do not need to reapply.)

Duties:

  • Provide accompanist services at all rehearsals and concerts as requested by the Artistic Director.
  • Support and help the Artistic Director musically.
  • Arrive well prepared for all rehearsals and concerts.
  • Support the rehearsal process by leading section rehearsals when requested by the Artistic Director.
  • In case of an emergency absence of the Artistic Director, lead the Wednesday evening choral rehearsal.
  • If unable to attend one or more regularly scheduled Wednesday evening choral rehearsals, please provide the Artistic Director with the names(s) and contact information of one or more temporary replacement accompanist(s) who can fill in for you.

Compensation: The Vallejo Choral Society offers a competitive fee.

About the Vallejo Choral Society:

The Vallejo Choral Society is one of the Western United States most venerable choral organizations.  The Vallejo Choral Society, now in its’ 97th season, is a regional chorus that serves Solano, Contra Costa and Napa counties.  Recognized for its musical excellence, the Society supports an auditioned chamber choir, a symphonic chorus of forty plus singers and a developing youth choir program.  The Vallejo Choral Society is a frequent collaborator with the Vallejo Symphony and has a long history of performing works for chorus and orchestra.  Most recently, the Vallejo Choral Society joined the Vallejo Symphony for a performance of Brahms’ Requiem.

About the Artistic Director:

Andrew Brown is a leading Kodaly-based choral conductor and educator in the San Francisco Bay Area.   He has been Artistic Director of the Vallejo Choral Society since 2012.  In the two years since Brown’s appointment, the Vallejo Choral Society has doubled its membership, founded an auditioned chamber choir, and built a large audience base.  In addition to his work with the Vallejo Choral Society, Brown is Artistic Director of the Contra Costa Children’s Chorus and the Concert Choir Director for the Piedmont East Bay Children’s Choir.

Practical Information to Consider:

The Vallejo Choral Society rehearses most Wednesdays beginning the last Wednesday in August until the last Wednesday in May.  Wednesdays when we will not be rehearsing are November 26, 2014, December 24, 2014, and December 31, 2014.  Wednesday evening rehearsals are from 7:00 – 10:00 p.m.  Saturday morning dress rehearsals are in addition to regular Wednesday evening rehearsals.

Our 2014 – 2015 performance schedule is Saturday, Dec. 13, 2014 (evening) and Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014 (afternoon); Sunday, Dec. 21, 2014 (afternoon); Sunday, March 29, 2015 (afternoon); and Sunday, May 31, 2015 (afternoon).  Dress rehearsals when not on Wednesday evenings are on Saturday, March 28, 2015 (morning) and Saturday, May 30, 2015 (morning).

  • A copy of your CV.
  • A statement that you are available to attend all scheduled Wednesday evening rehearsals, all scheduled Saturday dress rehearsals, and all performances.  If you are unable to attend some regularly scheduled Wednesday evening rehearsals, please provide dates for those rehearsals you are unable to attend.

 

Top candidates will be contacted for in-person auditions scheduled for the evening of Wednesday, August 13.  The in-person audition will consist of a rehearsal demonstration, a solo demonstration, and informal interview.

2. Solo Demonstration: Play two contrasting selections, for no more than five minutes total, of repertoire of your choice: one that demonstrates technical virtuosity and one that is slower and expressive.

 3. Informal Interview:   Sharing of background and experience and why you are interested in working with VCS.
