Sister Cities Girlchoir is expanding programming and looking for dynamic choral leaders!
Girlchoir Associate Directors leads Group Voice Lessons and Sectional Rehearsals that incorporates Musicianship/Sightsinging and Vocal Pedagogy while creating a caring and energetic learning space that reinforces teamwork for diverse learners.
Teaching Artists Responsibility
Besides teaching duties teaching artists are also active members of the communities we serve and help to build local cultures of teaching and learning in and through the arts. Additional opportunities include leading Saturday and Festival programs, mentoring emerging teaching artists, leading professional development workshops, and facilitating in-school residencies.
All classes employ partner/team teaching. Compensation is offered at competitive rates.
SCG Teaching Artists are hired on a part time basis (2 hours/day; 1-3 days/week; 32 weeks/year). There are teaching slots in our Little Sister (6-9 year olds) and Big Sister (10-13 year olds) Girlchoirs and our :

Sister Cities Girlchoir
Inspired by Venezuela’s music for social change program, El Sistema, Sister Cities Girlchoir is the girl empowerment choral academy serving over 250 at-risk girls in Philadelphia and Camden, NJ. SCG builds communities of music makers that empower girls to occupy their unique advantage in transforming our world.
The program launched in Summer 2012 with 12 singers and one year later serves over 250 girls.The Girlchoir has performed for over 15,000 people including President George Bush and the Honorary Blondell Reynolds Brown. The girls have sung side-by-side with professional artists from Opera Philadelphia, The Philadelphia Singers and Broadway Dreams.
SCG provides an all-girl learning environment and safe space offering a tuition-free music education program with a shared bottom line of musical excellence and positive youth development. The girls build vocal technique, musicianship, and showmanship in addition to critical soft skills for school and life success. We believe that a song can change a girl, and a girl can change the world!
