The Kelly Street Chorus of Philadelphia seeks Musical Director.

Location: Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA
The Kelly Street Chorus of Philadelphia, which began as the Kelly Street Businessmen's Association, was first organized by the great Victor Herbert near the turn of the 20th Century. We are a men’s chorus that rehearses at the historic Orpheus Club of Philadelphia, located in Center City. The chorus will also rehearse at other locations in the city as the need arises. Rehearsals are every other Friday evening, and include a catered dinner and beverages of our choosing.  Our main performance space is the Orpheus Club, and we perform two formal programs there per year, in December and May. Opportunities for additional community performances are often arranged as well. We have an extensive library of TTBB arrangements, and also have access to the library of the Orpheus Club of Philadelphia. The Music Director post is currently a part-time, pay per appearance position.

The ideal candidate should possess:
  • A degree in music, or equivalent experience.
  • Respect for the heritage of this historic ensemble, which is reflected in the planning of the musical programs.
  • The ability to direct and accompany us from the piano, or the willingness to help us in the search for an accompanist.
  • Flexibility with music styles in selection and performance.
  • The desire to teach our ensemble and help us grow musically.
  • The ability to transpose songs if needed, and the desire to possibly create arrangements for us if needed.
  • The willingness to record learning tracks for us for practice between rehearsals.
  • The willingness to work with our Board in selecting music and scheduling rehearsals and performances.
  • Enthusiasm, fun, decisiveness, clarity of purpose, and patience.
  • Punctuality with regards to rehearsal start and stop times.
  • An interest in the social aspects of a chorus like ours.
  • The desire to attract new members and inspire pride in our singers.
Interested candidates should send a letter of introduction, resumé, and any other pertinent materials to Mr. Louis Ferrero at lou.ferrero@gmail.com and Mr. Patrick Haughton at jpath1947@aol.com. Preference will be given to materials submitted by August 14, 2014.
