NEED a Choral Director at a Harlem Performing Arts HS!!!!
Date: August 12, 2014
Location: Harlem, New York, USA
The Urban Assembly School for the Performing Arts is seeking a dynamic Director of Choral/Vocal Arts to lead a program of over 150 students in grades 9-12 toward college study and careers in music! If you minimally hold an Initial Certification in NYS (or its equivalent from another state), 2-3 three years of music teaching experience, strong piano and conducting skills, and a vision for continuing the development of an established vocal program in Harlem, this job is for you!
The Urban Assembly School for the Performing Arts (UASPA), founded in 2006 by Principal Fia Davis, aims to sustain a challenging college-preparatory curriculum that infuses the performing Arts into all aspects of the academic experience. By using the Arts as a teaching tool and providing students with the means to express themselves, UASPA will breathe life and confidence into all members of our school community. We will use the cultural and professional resources of New York City to ensure that students receive a rigorous education, which exceeds state standards, are successful in earning a college degree, and have a vision for what their future holds.
At UASPA, students train at the conservatory level in Dance, Theater, and Music. The Department of Vocal Arts, founded in 2008 by Mr. Darryl Jordan, has endeavored to “develop singers for every stage.” Unlike other performing arts programs, students are not required to audition for entrance into UASPA. Therefore, we train the “diamonds in the rough” giving them an opportunity to pursue artistic success on par with famed Arts schools in NYC. Through intensive voice and music study in double-period classes and a menu of large and small ensembles, students have been prepared to pursue college music study and perform with some of the most prestigious organizations in the tri-state area!
Pay is per the new 2014 UFT/DOE Teacher Contract!
