AMERICAN BOYCHOIR SEEKS FULL-TIME ACCOMPANIST

Location: Princeton, New Jersey, USA

The American Boychoir seeks a full-time accompanist.      

Requirements:
Artistry 

  • Proven record of experience accompanying at the highest artistic level
  • Excellent piano, accompanying and sight-reading skills required
  • The ability to read from open vocal scores essential
  • Expertise playing a wide variety of musical styles imperative
  • Proficiency with various keyboard instruments (continuo/organ) a plus
  • Experience working in a Kodaly-based environment a plus

Pedagogy

  • Natural facility for working with young people in a creative environment in which the overarching goal is character education
  • Ability to teach music theory is a plus

Flexibility 

  • Ability to work in an ever-changing environment
  • Accompany the choir for all rehearsals (10+ hours per week)
  • Accompany the choir for all concerts and performances (75+ per year)
  • A minimum of 9 weeks travel per year distributed among 4 tours (September-June)
  • Work frequently includes nights and weekends
  • Regular national and international travel

  • Ability to work as a team player harmoniously with many departments
  • Must work well with young children
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Kind and nurturing disposition (a sense of humor is a plus)
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Highly collaborative creatively

Additional needs:

  • May perform small administrative tasks in preparation for rehearsals and tours
  • Will oversee the 5 pianos on campus and coordinate regular tunings
  • Assist Tour Manager with general coordination of performances
