The Spotlight on You- Upload New Works

I have started submitting my Spotlight articles for the front page of ChoralNet.   Though  there are some gems in the Showcase that have not been featured, I need more works to choose from.  If I am going to be able to effectively advocate for our community I need more new material to present to ChoralBlog readers.

If there are four or more new works uploaded by Wednesday, August 20 one of them will be featured on Sunday August 24.  Now is your chance to have people notice what you do!

Insight into what I look for in order of importance:
  1.  Is the piece marketable to a broad audience?
  2. Is there a recording of some kind? A real recording is preferred, a Matt Curtis or similar virtual recording second and lastly a virtual recording.   If there is no recording, it is unlikely I will feature it.
  3. Is there a significant portion of the work available in the PDF?  If major transitions are missing it is less likely I will feature it.
  4.  Is it for something other than SATB? Because we have less of this repertoire, it is the first place I look.   Plenty of SATB works get featured as well.
  5. Is it interesting to a specific audience or for a specific theme or liturgical celebration? Sometimes a niche audience is better.
  6. Do I think the work is approachabe by the apparent target choir type?
  7. Do I think the writing is well crafted?
  8. Is it a piece not published by a large company? (Exception: I would love to feature a piece that is also available on JWPepper's or Sheet Music Plus' eprint service for composers.  Let me know if any of your works that have not received a Silver Platter are also available there. Traditionally published pieces may be featured but they are ususally farther down the food chain.

Notice that the marketability is number one.  It may include all of the other factors but I look for pieces that will be enjoyed by directors, choirs and their audiences.

If you are at your maximum Showcase entries and want to swap out a work, just message me which one to remove.

Thanks,
Jack Senzig

Hi Jack!

Can you use a TTBB arrangement of an unknown jubilee piece, "Hold My Hand?"  It was on the Ohio OMEA contest several years ago, and it won a spot on this year's C7 International Competition.  Shall I send you the pdf. score and live mp3, privately?  I'm not sure if such items can be sent through this rectangle.

It's been a long time since I uploaded anything.... so long that I no longer remember where or how to do it.  Is there a link to the directions?

Many thanks,

Are we still using the only 3 - 4 uploads for each composer?  I've done a lot of stuff that I haven't put online yet.

If you're looking for something to feature, take a look at my Mass.  I put the whole score online and have a Matt Curtis recording (I only put the Kyrie recording on here.)

Congratulations to M. Susan Brown who got on this quickly and uploaded a bunch.  They that sow in tears will be featured this week.   I will again choose from among the pieces uploaded this week if I get at least 4.

I've sent you a message about getting editing privileges (which I don't seem to have at the moment) - will hopefully have time to upload some works on Monday.

Charles,
I gave you editor status so you can start the process.  However, you need to read and follow the directions here: http://choralnet.org/369877 as I won't post your stuff until I receive the legal request I need.

Jack,

I'm trying to become an editor of the library - sent you two messages last week. Anything else I need to do?
