PROGRAM NOTES:
Journeyman - elliot v. kotek

I wrote the first draft of this piece some fifteen years ago. It was a time during which my family had suffered a series of hardships and I was feeling particularly vulnerable as I navigated a turbulent path through tenuous waters. Despite distancing myself from some of my other early ink, Journeyman feels as real to me now as when I wrote it.

I believe that those who take risks by traveling out of their comfort zone should inevitably be, after all is said and done, rewarded.
Some people accept their lives as given, and others seize opportunities to craft alternate futures from the jaws of fate. Those souls who take action, those who step forward in moments of absolute uncertainty or loss, are to be revered and held in awe, for they are a rare breed.  Clarity sometimes comes to people in times of crisis, and the recognition in crisis of the moment to begin one's journey (however long) is the essence of bravery. It is my opinion that these journeys, regardless of their outcomes and irrespective of their destinations, provide the brave with the answers they seek.

ABOUT ME

I compose and produce original music soundtracks and scores for film directors, orchestras, choirs, choreographers, solo artists and game developers.

I was born and raised in Australia graduating in Music from the University of New South Wales and the Australian Film Television and Radio School in Sydney.  I have significant experience working in the United States, taking up a Fulbright Award at USC’s Thornton School of Music and working as a composer and orchestrator on independent and major studio productions.

I am driven to uncover the authentic musical voice of a project, and take the first notes of an idea through to conducting on the scoring stage and final mixing and production. My passion for the creative process has found a home in my work composing and producing original scores and in the broadcast series I host, Directing the Music.

My work has earned a Fulbright Fellowship, the Queen Elizabeth II Trust Award, Young Shakespearean Artist of the Year Award, The Reg Waite Award a Composition Fellowship at the Aspen Music Festival and a Hollywood Music Award among others.

I am currently based out of the West Coast of the United States from my studio where I work with clients from around the globe.

I have appeared in UK’s Clash Magazine, written for Moving Pictures Magazine, been heard on on ABC Classic FM, and interviewed live on ABC Radio Overnight among others.
