Mr. Mollicone is currently completing a new work, ALL GOD’S CHILDREN (mixed voices, soprano solo, and small orchestra) for the Vancouver USA Singers, conducted by Jana Hart. Other large choral works include A SONG FOR OUR PLANET, premiered in March, 2012 by Seattle First Baptist and Plymouth Church under the direction of Vicky Thomas. His BEATITUDE MASS (“Mass for the homeless”) has been performed by several choir throughout the US, and his more recent MISA DE LOS INMIGRANTES (“Mass for the immigrants”) was premiered by the San Jose Symphonic Choir under Leroy Kromm’s direction. Several shorter choral works are regularly performed in concerts and in church services, the gospel song HEAR ME REDEEMER being the most popular.
Newport Classic Ltd is producing a full length feature documentary film, The Face on the Barroom Floor: The poem, the place, the opera, to be released in June, 2013. Several shorter choral works are regularly performed in concerts and in church services. Other recent premiers include the song cycle for soprano: Songs of the Human, premiered by Nancy Wait-Kromm, and Fantasia Nostalgica for solo string quartet, string orchestra, and percussion, premiered by Quartet San Francisco (Jeremy Cohen) and the San Jose Chamber Orchestra under Barbara Day Turner’s direction.
Major commissions have come from The Central City Opera, The San Francisco Opera (and the Kurt Herbert Adler Award Foundation), The Houston Grand Opera, The Lyric Opera of Kansas City, The San Jose Chamber Orchestra, The Minnesota Opera, The Long Beach Symphony, The Fremont Symphony, The Santa Cruz Symphony, and the San Jose Symphonic Choir. Several of his works are available on compact disc (New World Records CRI, Albany, Newport Classic, and Crino Musica.) His music is published by E.C.S Publishing in Boston (formerly E.C. Schirmer), and Alfred Publishing (The Face on the Barroom Floor).
Upon graduating from the New England Conservatory, Mr. Mollicone took a position as an assistant conductor with the New York City Opera, where he worked with Maestro Julius Rudel and many major singers, including Beverly Sills, Erie Mills, Justino Diaz, Jose Carreras, Samuel Ramey, and Carol Neblett. In l975 he became a musical assistant for the Bernstein-Lerner musical 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Mr. Mollicone also worked in Los Angeles as an orchestrator and composer for film and television, and as a studio pianist. He has worked with many distinguished actors, including Jean Stapleton, David Ogden Stiers, Amanda McBroom, and Charles Nelson Reilly. He has conducted productions at well over a dozen American Opera companies, including Baltimore Opera, Portland Opera, Central City Opera, and The Lake George Opera Festival, and appeared as guest conductor several times with the San Jose Symphony.
