Since 1992, the Palisades Community Chorus has not only provided its members the opportunity to study and perform superb choral music, but has also offered the people of greater Bucks County the opportunity to hear a diverse selection of music through the Chorus’ annual Winter and Spring concerts. The Chorus has performed works by Schubert, Haydn, Bach, Mozart, Brahms, Rachmaninov and Haydn, among others. In 2012 the Chorus had the honor of performing the American premiere of “Te Deum Laudamus” by the Czech composer, Jan Dismas Zalenka. The chorus also performs a sophisticated variety of contemporary choral compositions drawn from both American and global repertoires.
We are a true Community Chorus in that our membership is drawn primarily from the Upper Bucks County region of Eastern Pennsylvania. We are a non-auditioned chorus and welcome members with every level of experience. There is a great deal of support within the chorus for section members to audition for solos, and these types of opportunities abound.
Our Director, Dr. Jack Schmidt, is Associate Professor of Music and Chair of the Departments of English and Liberal Arts at Delaware Valley College in Doylestown, PA. He received a B.M. from Wheaton College, an M.M. from DePaul University and a Ph.D in musicology from Northwestern University. Jack has continually "raised the bar" for the chorus in terms of the complexity and uniqueness of the music he selects for our performances. However, Jack never loses sight of the need to perform music that is both accessible and pleasing to our audiences.
