Susan Rheingans, mezzo-soprano, began her career as a soloist with the Roger Wagner Chorale on tours of the United States and the Orient. Most recently, she has appeared as a soloist in performances of Lauren Bernovsky’s Five Songs on Poems of Robert Herrick with Newtown Chamber Orchestra (Newtown , PA) and performed the role of Flora in Bohéme Opera New Jersey’s production of La Traviata. Ms. Rheingans also includes the roles of Octavian in Der Rosenkavalier, Giulietta in Les Contes d'Hoffmann, Dorabella in Così fan tutte, Geneviève in Pelléas et Mélisande, the Principessa in Adriana Lecouvreur and the Laura in La Gioconda in her repertoire, and has performed with the Los Angeles Opera, Bel Canto Opera of Los Angeles, Concert Opera Philadelphia, Inland Empire Opera Company and Delaware Valley Opera Company, among others.
A frequent soloist in Handel’s Messiah, Ms. Rheingans also includes the Requiems of Mozart and Duruflé, Dvorak’s Stabat Mater and Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Mass in C Major in her oratorio repertoire. Ms. Rheingans’ commitment to new music has led to premieres of solo vocal works in both the United States and Europe, including several songs by Pulitzer Prize-winning composer, Jennifer Higdon.
Ms. Rheingans has been on the voice faculty of Settlement Music School in Philadelphia since 2001, and maintains a busy private voice studio in Fairless Hills, Pennsylvania. A former first prize winner in the National Association of Teachers of Singing competition for the southern California region, Ms. Rheingans was President of the New Jersey Chapter of NATS from 2007 through 2012.
