Pianist Nancy Curry is currently the accompanist for the University of Nebraska at Kearney choral ensembles, opera workshop and musical theatre, as well as appearing in recital with visiting artists, faculty and students. She toured for two seasons with San Diego Opera as the music director for their Young Artist Ensemble, and has served as rehearsal pianist for Edmonton Opera (Canada) and Nevada Opera while performing outreach tours for both companies.
Ms. Curry has served as opera coach/accompanist at the University of Northern Colorado, the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, the University of Alberta, and the prestigious Banff Centre in Canada, and has been a faculty member of Central Community College – Columbus (NE) and Bethany College (KS). Ms. Curry has music directed musical theatre productions for companies in Colorado, Nebraska, and Canada, receiving an award for best music direction from the Omaha Theatre Arts Guild for her work with Shelterbelt Theatre.
Ms. Curry also trained as a classical singer, studying with Harold Wiens, Shirley Brumbaugh and Selina James. She has sung with the Edmonton Opera Chorus, the Greeley (Colorado) Chorale, the Omaha Symphonic Chorus, the MasterSingers of Omaha, and the Los Angeles Master Chorale. More recently she has pursued training in vocal jazz and contemporary commercial music (CCM), studying with Phil Mattson and Jeannette LoVetri and earning teacher certification in Somatic Voiceworks, a pedagogy approach for CCM singers.
Ms. Curry holds a Master of Music degree in Collaborative Piano from the University of Southern California, where her mentors were Gwendolyn Koldovsky and Jean Barr, and completed further study in art song and opera at the Banff Centre, where she studied with Martin Isepp, Thomas Muraco, John Hess and Keith Turnbull.
