Robert Kennedy is a native of Montreal, Quebec, Canada where he studied organ with Kenneth Meek and Gerald Wheeler. He graduated from McGill in 1966 with a major in Classics. He holds an Associate in Music in Piano from McGill.
He studied at the Royal College of Music in 1968-69: conducting with Vernon Handley; organ with Sir John Dykes Bower and Ralph Downs. He earned the Associate of the Royal College of Music, Fellow of the Royal College of Organists and Choirmaster's Diploma of the Royal College of Music.
In a career in church music spanning 45 years from 1962 to 1997 Kennedy served as organist and choirmaster at Maisoneuve-St. Cuthbert's Presbyterian Church, St. Columba's Anglican Church and Westmount Park United Church in Montreal; Muswell Hill Presbyterian Church in London, England; St. Peter's by the Sea Episcopal Church, Bay Shore, New York; Cathedral of the Incarnation, Garden City, New York; St. Michael's Church, Litchfield, Connecticut; Christ Church Cathedral and Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Nassau, Bahamas.
Kennedy has lived in Raleigh, North Carolina since 1999. He has been a volunteer and parttime staff member at WCPE since June 1999. He has hosted and programmed Peaceful Reflections (2002-2010) and Great Sacred Music (2010- )
