David Sawatzky is interim music instructor at Red Deer College, Alberta. As a former Assistant Professor of Music at Bluffton University in Ohio, he has directed annual musicals (such as Singin' in the Rain, Little Women, and The Spitfire Grill), as well as directed both the university's women's and men's choirs, Bel Canto and Accent. He has also been musical director of the university's Bach festival. Previous engagements have seen David as conductor of the Central Illinois Children's Choir (2004-2006), the University Chorus of the University of Illinois (2004-2005), the St. David's Welsh Male Choir of Edmonton, Alberta (2002-2004), and the Edmonton Columbian Choir's Adult Choir, (2002-2004). He has also been an active participant in masterclasses with Helmuth Rilling and Frieder Bernius. He has performed as a chorister with several different choral organizations, inlcuding Pro Coro Canada (2001-04), the Winnipeg Singers (Winnipeg, Manitoba), Richard Eaton Singers (Edm.), ICoristi (Edm.), Da Camera Singers (Edm.), Ensemble de la Rue (Edm.), Canzona (Wpg.), and a number of university ensembles. David completed his doctoral degree in choral conducting from the University of Illinois. His dissertation is on the conducting implications of graphic music notation in selected works of R. Murray Schafer.
