Steven Lorenz is director of choral activities at Ann Arbor Pioneer High School in the Ann Arbor Public Schools, where he directs four curricular choirs, oversees seven extra-curricular choirs, and teaches advanced placement music theory. In addition, Mr. Lorenz is the musical director and conductor of Measure for Measure: A Men’s Choral Society based in Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti. During the summer, Mr. Lorenz is on the conducting faculty at the Interlochen Arts Camp, directing the Intermediate Vocal Arts program.
Mr. Lorenz holds degrees from Michigan State University (M.M.) and Carleton College (B.A.), studying conducting with Jonathan Reed and Lawrence Burnett. Choirs prepared by Mr. Lorenz have appeared at the American Choral Directors Association Central Division Convention (2010), American Choral Directors Association Michigan State Convention (2008, 2011), Intercollegiate Men’s Choruses seminar (2010), the Michigan Music Conference (2009, 2010), and have sung under the batons of Enrique Diemecke, Arie Lipsky, David Rayl, and Leonard Riccinto.
Mr. Lorenz is an active member of the American Choral Directors Association, Michigan School Vocal Music Association, andIntercollegiate Men’s Choruses. Currently, he serves on the boards of the Intercollegiate Men’s Chorusesand the American Choral Directors Association-Michigan as Repertoire and Standards Chair for Male Choirs. Past appointments include South Lyon High School and Oakland Community College.
