MARK ARMSTRONG

Location: Ireland

Mark Armstrong is one of Ireland's foremost choral directors with thirty years experience of conducting and training choirs. A love of choral music started at a young age as a boy treble in the Dublin Boy Singers. He went on to sing in and conduct church choirs in his native Dublin and was appointed director of the prestigious choral group The College Singers while studying in Trinity College Dublin. While an undergraduate he also directed Musica Sacra, a choral group specialising in music of the high baroque. In 1989 Mark was appointed director of the Dún Laoghaire Choral Society, a 100 voice choir and developed it into one of the leading large choirs in the country.

In 2002 Mark took over the direction of Tallaght Choral Society and has performed the large choral repertoire to great acclaim. Guest appearances have included RTE Philharmonic Choir, RTE Cór na n-Óg (childrens' choir), Culwick Choral Society, RTE Chamber Choir, National Chamber Choir with collaborations between his own choirs and the RTE National Symphony Orchestra, RTE Concert Orchestra and the Irish Chamber Orchestra.

Mark is also well known as an arranger of choral, orchestral and concert band music and has recorded extensively in all these mediums. He currently holds the appointment of Director of the Irish Defence Forces School of Music and is a member of the board of the Association of Irish Choirs.

Mark's music is published by Seolta Music and is available at www.seoltamusic.com.
