William G. (Bill) Niederer is Choral Director and Music Department Chair at Elkhart (Indiana) Central High School, where he directs four of the six choral ensembles and teaches Music Theory and Advanced Placement Music Theory. He was appointed to this position in 2000, having previously taught at Muscatine (Iowa) High School, Paul Harding High School (now the Paul Harding Junior High School facility), and Boone Grove Jr/Sr High School.
He received his Bachelor of Science degrees in Music Education (voice) and Music Performance (organ) from Indiana State University. After beginning his teaching career, he completed graduate coursework at Valparaiso University, Ball State University, Butler University, and Indiana State University, with his Master of Science degree in Music Education awarded by Indiana State University.
He currently serves the American Choral Directors Association as Central Division (Indiana, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan) Editor and is a past president of the Indiana Choral Directors Association. In addition to his work with ACDA, he is a member of the Board of Directors of the Indiana State University Alumni Association, a past executive board member of the Saint Joseph Valley (Indiana) chapter of the American Guild of Organists and is past national president of Mortar Board National College Senior Honor Society. He is also a member of The Fraternity of Phi Gamma Delta, the National Association for Music Education, and the National Education Association, having twice served as a local teachers' association president.
On the choral staff for the Indiana Ambassadors of Music's European tours in 2004, 2008, and 2012, he served as Principal Choral Conductor for the group's summer 2014 European tour and will do so again in the summer of 2016. An active adjudicator for the Indiana State School Music Association, he is also an in-demand substitute organist/pianist at Michiana area churches.
