Harold Daugherty is Music Director at La Canada Congregational Church. He received his B.A. from Occidental College, and his M.M. and D.M.A. degrees from the University of Southern California. Dr. Daugherty's choral studies were with Dr. Howard Swan, Dr. Charles Hirt, and Dr. James Vail. His organ studies were with Clarence Mader, Irene Robertson, and Clarence Ledbetter. After receiving his M.M., he became a professor of music at Sullins College in Bristol, Virginia, and was also Music Director at Central Presbyterian Church.
Moving back to California, Dr. Daugherty worked for thirty-three years as Organist and Choirmaster at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Los Angles, followed by St. Edmund’s Episcopal Church in San Marino, and then St. Mark’s Episcopal Church in Glendale before moving to La Canada Congregational Church. In addition to his church positions, he taught at the Claremont Colleges, owned and ran a recording business, worked for EF Hutton as a lease negotiator and Shearson Lehman Brothers as Assistant Vice President in the Real Estate Facilities Department, and worked for the Medicare program.
Dr. Daugherty continues his long association with the American Guild of Organists. He has been Dean of the Los Angeles Chapter twice. He has also served the national organization as Region IX Angeles District Convener, Professional Concerns Coordinator, and as Chair of the Region IX Nominating Committee. He currently serves on the Executive Board for the Los Angeles Chapter. Dr. Daugherty is a Life Member of the American Choral Directors Association.
