Sonia Megias Lopez

Location: New York, USA
Sonia Megías, composer/choir conductor,
understands and uses art in general (and music in particular) as a language that transmits, heals, connects, gathers... Grown in a Spanish village, ritual and ethnic music mixed with painting, mime, dance and theater. During her professional career, the voice has always been a very important tool, from the work with children and amateur choirs to the composition of cantatas, mini-operas and other experimental vocal pieces. After graduating in Spain from composition and music pedagogy (CAP), she studied with several artists as Esther Ferrer, Juan María Solare, Karlheinz Stockhausen or Phil Niblock, and received some artistic fellowships, as Erasmus (Italy, 2003), Nuova Consonanza (Italy, 2005), I-Park (Connecticut, 2008) or Casa de Velázquez (France-Spain, 2009). She’s currently studying a Masters Degree in Composition at the New York University thanks to the Fulbright and NYU scholarships. More info:
